August 11th will be the picnic at Lion Larry and Carol's house. No noon meeting. The picnic starts at 5:30PM ay 1671 Edna Drive, just off Cole Street. Next board meeting is August 4th at noon at Lock 16.
We received a letter from the district cabinet secretary, and there will be a meeting in Ottawa on August 22nd (Sunday) at 2PM about membership.
Lion Carol passed out the address books for the club. If you didn't get one, contact Lion Carol.
The Starlight Party will be July 30th from 2:30 to 3PM in Teddy Bear Park. Bring a fellow Lion and some clean jokes for Marge.
August 25th we will have corporate contributors to White Cane Day in the den. We're looking for a good turnout of a lot of Lions.
The Lion's Golf Scramble is tentatively being scheduled for September 8th. See Lion Barry for details.
And finally, what you have all been waiting for, Lion Dean scored $10 in the club's 50/50 drawing. The $10 was handed over to Julie. PROGRAM
Lion Barbara from the Bluffton Lions was in the den today, to talk about VOSH. VOSH is an acronym for Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and is comprised of optometrists and others interested people who work to provide eye care for people in the underdeveloped countries of the world.
Glasses are collected from a variety of sources. The major sources are Lions Clubs and churches. Donated glasses are cleaned, neutralized and categorized for use on VOSH missions. The glasses are either taken by team members as extra baggage or shipped to the mission site before hand.
Barbara explained that they choose a country, and then find a host to help sponsor their trip. However, most volunteers help with the costs of travelling to a county to perform the services.
Lion Larry's trip to Haiti was part of a VOSH mission. They have to take their own food and water, and conditions are rough, as one might expect. It's more than just a camp out. At one of their recent missions they saw 4,000 patients during their stay.
Upcoming missions include; Sept 27-Oct 4, Jamaica, Oct 16-24, Haiti (NW), Nov 11-18, San Benito, Guatemala (Ontario), Nov 19, Santa Maria del Oro, Mexico (Santa Cruz), Nov 20-Dec 2, Nairobi, Kenya (IN), Nov 22-28, El Salvador with FUDEM (CA), Nov, Olongapoa, Philiippines (BC), and Dec 27-Jan 10, Vietnam (UCB). VOSH teams from all over the civilized world are helping people regain their sight!

No birthdays. Lion President Carol donned her tiara, which was a gift from Past President Dean, and called the meeting to order.
President Lion Carol reported on the Board of Directors meeting that was held July 7. (Please note that the meeting notes that were sent out have the wrong date and time the meeting started. The date was July 7, not June 3, and the meeting was called to order at 12:01. Meeting notes should be included in this newsletter.
We were reminded that our 90th Charter Party would be held October 23 at Howard Johnsons. Lion Bill Stolly volunteered to head the decorating committee and we would like someone to step up for publicity and invitations. There were 13 clubs chartered in 1920. We were not the first, but for a long time were the largest and have provided the District with more District Governors than any other club.
President Carol passed out 2010/2011 club directories that were prepared by Lion Mark. They sure look nice and we thank Lion Mark for the great job he did.
Lion Bill Stolly reported that the Starlight Club will meet at Teddy Bear park on July 30 at 2:30 for the annual picnic. All Lions are invited to attend. There have been 54 Starlight members who indicated the will come to the picnic.
Please let Lion Bill know if you will be attending. (I received information that the entertainment for the picnic will be Starlighter’s Got Talent) It is always a fun day. Come out and meet the Starlight members and have a good time.
Lion PDG Larry announced that he has accepted the presidency of Northwest Ohio Lions Eye Care Foundation. All Lions members are on this foundation and are welcome at their meetings. There are usually four meetings scheduled a year. This District Foundation pays for eye care that individual clubs may not be able to fund, such as cataract surgery, CCTV’s and other aids to the sight impaired.
New member Cindy Barber was inducted into the club. Cindy is a supervisor with Perry Corporation and certainly welcome her in the den. Come to the next meeting and let her know how great this club is and what wonderful hospitality we have. Lion Cindy was invited to join by Lion Lynda.
PROGRAMLion Mary Shenouda introduced Cindy Tenwalde of the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is a non-profit of about 1150 members. They are self-supporting and the dues and other activities the Chamber holds raise all their monies.
They have ties with many local businesses for discounts and also have an insurance program that makes it more affordable for small businesses to offer coverage to their employees. Their mission is to service, represent and enhance business.
Chamber membership makes employees and members of belonging organizations eligible to attend all Chamber events and they have a wide variety of things they do.
The monthly Wake, Rattle and Roll is only one of the events they schedule throughout the year. They also allow non-profits to sell tickets or advertise their fundraisers at their different events. They have a speaker's bureau and their directory is made available to new residents who may be looking for some place to serve.
They have a monthly e-letter that has about 1800/2000 recipients, letting people know what is going on, not only with the Chamber, but also with Chamber members. They have a business expo every year and have recently gotten a bunch of young professionals together to look at what can be done to make Lima a better place to live and also to make it a better place to do business.
All in all it sounds like they are really into helping people network and doing all they can to make this area a better place to be. Other service clubs are members and membership may be worth a try.

OFFICIAL MINUTES OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
Lima Host Lions Club of Lima, Ohio held its regular Board Meeting at Lock Sixteen on July 7, 2010.
Meeting was called to order at 12:01 by Lion President Carol Swords, acting as chairman, with the following board members in attendance: Lions AnnRea Miller, Dean Rallof, Paul Woehlke, Lynda Wright, Julie Ward, Dr. Bob Curry, Fred Vobbe, and Larry Swords .
NO QUORUM

Old Business
Lion Paul Nutter is looking to hold instruction classes in September for Lions Quest in Lima City Schools. More info when it is firmed up.
5K Freedom run ran rather smoothly. Our July 4th registration was a little lower than in previous years and the packet pickups on 2 days helped lessen the number of people on Sunday. All in all it was a good race.
Some more discussion on joining the Chamber of Commerce. We will get info as to costs and try to get someone to give us reasons why it would benefit us, then decide what we want to do.
New Business
The club will be asked if they want a picnic next month as one of our meetings. We will be getting some idea at the next meeting, July 14.
Discussed more ideas for fund raising. Lion Julie mentioned we may want to try to get some fund raiser for each quarter of the year. Sounds like a great idea.
Application for membership of Cindy Barber was approved. Motion made by Lion Paul and seconded by Lion Dr. Bob. Passed
Members are asked to seek other like minded citizens of the area to join us in helping others.
